USING SPECIALTY PRUNED PLANTS IN THE LANDSCAPE

Maximizing Limited Space

Limited space does not equal limited creativity. On the contrary, l imitations often inspire creative solutions! Specialty pruned plants are perfect for small spaces. Mature plant sizes have been altered and maintained through different pruning techniques. Espaliers are trained to grow flat like a fence and work beautifully against a wall, along a fence- line or in a garden perimeter. Boxed, pleached and

arched trees work wonderfully for limited overhead space. Tree crowns have been reduced and are meant to be maintained to create a certain shape.

Entertainment Areas and High-End Design

Meticulously maintained landscapes set the tone for entertainment and high- end design. And tree archways are the icing on the

celebratory cake! Click here to explore all of the different types of specialty pruned plants that we have to offer!

Landscape Definition

Defining different areas of your landscape is fun with specialty pruned plants. Hedges are particularly known for this and are often seen as perimeter plantings. We offer hedges, narrow hedges and tall evergreens that have been pruned into panels ( pictured left). Pleached and boxed trees are also a great option. Both are deciduous trees that offer overhead clearance, but feature an altered canopy above. These types of trees work well around gardens and above seating areas. They can also make bold statements or create intimate areas to gather.

Style Meets Necessity

There are often elements in our landscape that we either need to incorporate or work around. Specialty pruned plants can help.

Evergreen elevation is a type of pruning where the lower limbs are removed to expose the main trunk. Elevation can reduce unsightly animal browsing, but can also allow airflow and light to reach

additional greenery below. Espaliers and hedges can hide unwanted views like parking areas or equipment. Edible fruit tree espaliers can bridge the gap between landscape design and food gardens. And we love custom projects. If your landscape requires certain specifications or if you have any questions about specialty pruned plants, give us a call!
