Root Pruned VS. Summer Dug

Root Pruning

We are offering more Root Pruned trees than ever before! If you're not familiar with Root Pruning - here's what that means! Before the leaves emerged on the trees, we cut the roots. We dropped our tree spades down into the ground and cut the roots, but instead of digging the tree, we left the tree in the ground. Our Root Pruned trees are then set up with irrigation. The trees proceed to leaf out as normal, but they don't require the summer digging process! We can dig these trees immediately, with no wait time! And stress free.

Summer Digging

Summer Digging is a process that our deciduous trees and shrubs require this time of year. If they haven't been Root Pruned, they need to be Summer Dug to ensure the smoothest summer transition. When we Summer Dig, we cut the top 6-8" of the roots while also creating a trench around the tree. We fill the trench with water and keep it watered for for 7-10 days. Summer Dug trees need at least 7-10 days to complete and require an additional 20% fee. This process decreases summer stress and increases surviability!

Possibly Both!

If you need more trees than listed on our Root Pruned Availability, your order might utilize both methods! Start your project with the Root Pruned trees that are ready immediately while we work on Summer Digging! Your Summer Dug trees will be ready in about 7-10 days. It's also important to note that evergreen trees like Spruce, Hollies, Cryptomeria, Leylands and Green Giants don't require root pruning or summer digging. Evergreens can be dug normally all summer long. Whatever the tree, we have the solution this summer! Just don't forget to water, water, water!
